Completion of the Fifth Event of the Language Fest –” Deepavali: International Students Symposium on Language Literature and Culture, 2022″

n an effort to commemorate 21 February as the International Mother Language Day, Green University Language Center, under the guidance of the competent authority has successfully hosted the “International Mother Language Fest” for the second time from February 21 to March 1, 2022. As the fifth event of the fest, an international student symposium “Deepavali: International Students Symposium on Language Literature and Culture, 2022” was successfully arranged on 26 February, 2022 at 6:30 pm via Zoom. The presenters and audiences of today’s symposium was from Green University of Bangladesh and Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, West Bengal, India.

The first presenter was Ms. Fairooz Saiyara, from the Department of English, Green University of Bangladesh. Her presentation was on “Extracting Romanticism and Nationalism Underneath Magical Realism in the stories of Taranath Tantrik by Taradas Bandyopadhyay”. Ms. Debapriya Sarkar was the second presenter from the Department of English, Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, West Bengal, India. She delivered her speech on “Bandna Parab: A Celebration of Indigenous Culture”. The third presenter, to Ms. Aruja Islam from Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Green University of Bangladesh gave her speech on the topic “Bangladesh’s Indigenous Communities’ Heritage and Culture”. After that, Ms. Mousumi Mahanty from Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, West Bengal, India, presented on the topic “Selected Rituals of Kharia – an Endangered Linguistic Community”. The fifth and sixth presenters Mr. Somenath Mahato and Ms. Susmita De from the Department of English, Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, West Bengal, India gave an informative presentation on Taboos and Rituals in Tribal Life: A Reading of Easterine Kire’s Sky is My Father” and “Preservation & Revitalization of Kharia, An Endangered Language” respectively.

 

The event was hosted by Tabassum Islam Nabanee, Lecturer, Department of English and Language Center, Green University of Bangladesh. The event was telecast live on the official Facebook page of GUB.  Md. Saiful Islam, Respected Registrar, Green University of Bangladesh graced the event with his presence as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. Apurba Saha, Chairperson of English & coordinator, Center for Endangered Languages, Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, West Bengal, India was also present in the event.

With an optimistic note and gratitude towards everyone, the event came to an end with the vote of thanks from Ms. Serajum Munira, Director of Language Center.
