“আঞ্চলিক ভাষার লড়াই “আমার জেলাই সেরা”: 3rd Mother Language Fest
In an effort to commemorate 21 February as the International Mother Language Day, Center for Language and Cultural Studies, Green University of Bangladesh, under the guidance of the competent authority has successfully hosted the “International Mother Language Fest” for the third time from February 21 to March 8, 2023.
There is diversity in the language we use. This variety of language exposure is often referred to as regionalism or regional dialect. In order to show love and respect for regional dialects of different districts of Bangladesh, the fifth event of the fest titled “আঞ্চলিক ভাষার লড়াই: আমার জেলাই সেরা” or “A Competition on Regional Dialects: My District is the Best” was successfully arranged on 27th February, 2023 at 3.30 pm in Green University City Campus.
The program was hosted by Ms. Sumaiya Afreen, Lecturer and Assistant Program Coordinator, Department of English and Center for Language and Cultural Studies. Dr. Serajum Munira, Associate Professor, Department of English and Director, Center for Language and Cultural Studies, Green University of Bangladesh graced the event with her enriching welcome speech.

Here in this event, the students presented different aspects of their respective districts through talking in their regional dialects. Students from different departments of GUB participated in this exciting competition. This event had three outstanding judges: Dr. Md. Mehedi Hasan, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, Dr. Mohammad Shariful Alam, Associate Professor, Department of Textile, Dr. Md Afzal Hossain Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Green University of Bangladesh. Md Musa from Munshiganj district, Department of Textile, Green University of Bangladesh became the winner. Sourove Kumar Chakrabarty from Jessore and Md. Awrangajeb from Noakhali, Department of CSE, Green University of Bangladesh won the second and third position, respectively.

Honorable Vice Chancellor, Green University of Bangladesh, Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, was the chief guest of the event. Prof. Dr. Farhana Helal Mehtab, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Green University of Bangladesh and Brig. Gen. Md. Mahboob Sarwar Ph.D (Retd), Registrar, Green University of Bangladesh graced the event as the special guests.
After the competition, the chief guest and the special guests shared their reflections on this event and their experience about various regional dialects. Finally, the event came to an end with a vote of thanks towards all the guests, participants, judges and the audiences out there.
